The QUEENSLAND BILLIARDS & SNOOKER ASSOCIATION Inc's Annual General Meeting has been deferred until Sunday 14th March 2010 commencing 10:00 am at the SHERWOOD SERVICES CLUB, 4 Clewley Street, Corinda. Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the meeting. All Affiliates, Members and interested observers are welcome.

Congratulation to Kurt for winning the 2010 Matchroom Open Snooker, beating Robbie Tibbs in the final. Robbie beat Tom Lucas 3-0 in the semis while Kurt bt Phil Perkins by the same margin. The losing quater finalists were Benny Ip, Austin Taylor, Peter Kitchener and Ben Farnworth. Tony Cheng's clearance of 57 in the 1st round remained the highest break. Notable wins included Benny Ip's 3-2 upset over Bronson after forfeiting 2 frames for late arrival and Kitchener's victory against Daniell Haenga.

The event attracted 48 players (40 last year) and had support from the lower grade players and new comers such as Steve Henderson and Alex Ho. Peggy Li played extremely well, making breaks of 30s in her matches before losing to Robbie in the last 16.

Table heaters were used throughout the tournament and is now a permanent fixture at Matchroom.

I would like to thank Forbes for being the TD, Des Turner referee coordinator, and all the referees who put in long hours to ensure that all matches were played in good spirit of the game. Recording of the final were done by Bill Kent who also provided the electronic scores on the huge monitor for all to see.

Finally, many thanks to all the die hard fans for their attendance. I am sure the players appreciated your presence and support.

"An excellent day of high quality snooker to complete the 2009 Suncoast Open at Maroochydore RSL.

Quarter Finals

Kurt Brown is fine form to defeat John Bonke 3-0. The others a little closer with Paul Asher edging out Phil Haycock 3-2 and Phil Perkins coming from 2 down to defeat Robbie Tibbs 3-2.

Semi Finals

Phil Perkins always in front but needed all 5 frames to get past Paul Asher.

In the best game of the tournament with a sensational final frame, Steve Donohoe prevailed over Kurt Brown. Kurt trailed 2-1 and 34 behind in the 4th with one red remaining. A long red, perfect position on the black, followed by the rainbow for a 35 clearance to make it 2-2. Kurt opened frame 5 with a 34 break. Steve followed next hit with a 48 and then managed to hang on for a very draining 3-2 win.

Final

Some of the most brutal, uncompromising stuff I have ever had the priviledge to watch. Phil Perkins opening salvo of 7 reds with 7 blacks for a 56 break. Steve Donohoe replied with 44 next hit. 100 points in 2 visits to the table. Phil never missed a pot for the rest of the frame to lead 1-0. Almost consecutive breaks of 24, 24 and 28 saw Phil claim frame two. 23 and 38 soon followed for Phil to lead 3-0. A little more sedate in frame 4 but still did not miss a pot until the yellow and very soon all over for a 4-0 victory.

The Bribie Island Taxi High Break won by Kurt Brown with 59.

A good tournament for Steve. Good to see him back in town. Just found Phil in superman like form come final time.

Congratulations Phil Perkins, a great tournament victory. Twice came from 2 frames down to defeat Ash Coe and Robbie Tibbs. A tense 5 framer with Paul Asher and culminating in an awesome display of power potting to turn the final into a demolition job.

My thanks to the Maroochydore RSL Snooker Club, Sponsors, Referees, Players and Spectators who all helped to make my job so much easier and to make this a successful event one again.

Tuesday 20th October 2009 – Minor Premiers, Rlds Muddies lost to Mtchrm Maulers and Rlds Sandies defeated QM Beta.

Thursday 22nd October 2009 - Rlds Muddies defeated Rlds Sandies. Keiran Frettingham had a 44 break which is now his personal best and his highest score of 358.

Tuesday 27th October 2009 - Rlds Muddies defeated by Mtchrm Maulers in the FINAL.
