Robbie Tibbs defends Qld Championship

Robbie Tibbs defended his Queensland Snooker Championship defeating Daniell Haenga in the Final on Sunday afternoon. Patron George Goold was presented received his Membership No. 1 card prior to the commencement of the Final. When presenting the 'Table' trophy which he and wife Sally donated,he suggested the Final be played on the week following all games to allow more spectators to attend. Robbie thanked all the referees and the Kedron Wavell Snooker Club and the Matchroom Snooker Centre, Peter Williams for the organising of the many aspects on hosting a championship and through all of this managed to advance to the quarterinal stage. The Championship would not have been as successful without the efforts of Maureen Williams. s with the previous Championship her catering was spot on for players and officials.

The Venue for the Elimination section of the QLD Men’s Residents Snooker Championships have been adjusted so that all Elimination games will now be played Kedron (Zillmere). This was done to allow all players within the Elimination Section the same opportunity to play on the tables that the finals will be on. It means that some of the allocated game times will change and 2 of the 32rd games will be played on Friday Night. I would like to thank Chee Yap and Peter Williams for their understanding of the situation and allowing the QBSA the opportunity to change the venue allocation for the benefit of the tournament. I sincerely apologize if anyone feels hard done by with the change but I am sure you will all agree that the Elimination Series is best served being at one venue. Thanks, Scott Clifford, President, QBSA.

The Queensland Billiards & Snooker Association will conduct the prestigious Queensland Men's Residents Snooker Championship at the Kedron Wavell Services Snooker Room, 9 Jenning Street, Zillmere this week-end. Play commences Friday night at 7 pm with the first game being last year's Champion, Robbie Tibbs playing Mt Gravatt player Donald Moo.  Queensland and Australian RANKING POINTS are awarded to players for this Championship.  Possibly the most 'open' Championship for some years, several players will sieze the moment. Former Queensland Champions Phil Haycock, Daniell Haenga and Danik Lucas have an excellent chance. Danik is also a former Australian Billiards Champion. Sixteen year old Kurt Brown, who was a finalist in this year’s Australian Under 21 Snooker Championship is a genuine contender. Kurt’s form in the local A grade pennant this year suggest that he has the ability to beat his more experienced opponents.  Kurt has been selected to represent Australia at the IBSF World Under 21 Snooker Championship in Iran later this year.   The Champion and Finalist will represent Queensland at the Australian National Snooker Championship at the RACV Club in Melbourne in August. The Champion will also be entitled to claim the coveted Membership Number 147, a valued number in the World of Snooker.  A magnificent scaled Snooker Table donated by George Goold is the perpetual Trophy for the Championship since 1997.

Calcutta winning bidder will receive 45% & winning runner-up bidder 25%
